The UK Government is set to publish is Waste strategy in November, after it was announced by the Environmental Audit Committee chair Mary Creagh in a recent seminar.
The strategy will be focused on a five key agenda points and is based on the February 25 year environment plan.
Key to the plan is the following:
- How to achieve zero avoidable waste by 2050,
- Phasing out avoidable plastic waste by 2042,
- New targets for waste and recycling,
- How to stop food waste going to landfill by 2030
- Reforming the PRN system.
The strategy was meant to be released during this month but due to Brexit and a later budget in October this year, the publication date has been moved back. It is anticipated that Chancellor Phillip Hammond is to introduce a tax on some single-use plastics in his October Budget.
Over the next few months, we will monitor the situation and discuss in more detail after the Strategy announcement in November. If you are looking for ways to dispose safely of your waste streams and would like to speak to one of our team, please do not hesitate to get in touch today.27
