We took the opportunity to find out a little bit about our Supply Chain Manager, Dan Biddulph. Here’s what Dan had to say.
1 – How long have you been with Acumen, what is the job you do and where are you based?
I have been with Acumen 4 years 4 months. I am home office based but as of the last few weeks I drop in to our head office in Knottingley 3 days per week and will be doing this for the foreseeable future.
2 – What does a normal day look like?
There is no normal day in Acumen (especially during COVID), every day is different. At this moment in time I am working with the supply chain and gathering updated rate cards and prices. As well as this I have been making sure all supplier documents are up to date, to ensure full compliance for our customers. Alongside this I’m working hard to ensure that some of the price increases we’ve received from our suppliers of late aren’t passed on to our clients and that we’re doing everything we can to keep their costs down.
Onboarding new suppliers also forms part of my day-to-day tasks as it’s important to ensure all documents are logged on our ASC database. Likewise my role requires me to do supplier audits, dealing with service issues, helping with invoice queries, supporting BDMs with Tenders and working with our supply chain on hazardous waste jobs.
3 – How has the way you work changed in the past 12 months?
It’s changed so much. Constantly working from home has been different as I am used to flexibility in my role by meeting people, attending the office and interacting with office staff. I even miss shaking hands after meetings with clients and suppliers! As we all know, it’s been a very strange year, but we can now see light at the end of the tunnel and I cant wait to get back to a sense of normality.
4 – What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
Problems happen, but how you deal with them is what really matters.
5 – How do you unwind outside of work?
I like to unwind by spending quality time with my family and friends, long walks, cooking as well as playing and watching football.
