Acumen Waste Management and the Guardians of Nature

As a business that holds a strong sense of responsibility to support local communities and protect the environment in which we work, we’re pleased to have recently partnered with YHG (Your Housing Group) to provide an essential service to the Guardians of Nature – a community-based project focused on environmental sustainability, horticulture, and mental health support.

About The Guardians of Nature

The Guardians of Nature are a dedicated group of volunteers, many with physical and mental health challenges, committed to making a significant difference in their local community. They work tirelessly to create and maintain wildlife-friendly spaces, grow food, flowers, and craft sustainable products. Their work aims to educate and engage community members in nature, sustainability, and horticulture. They create an inclusive environment for volunteers, particularly those facing isolation and mental/physical health issues.

Project Involvement
The project supported by both YHG and our team, served a crucial role in this community project. The skip we provided was part of a solution to create a space where everyone was welcome. The work and support we provided equipped volunteers with the necessary tools to gain confidence, forge long-term friendships, and experience a sense of togetherness through shared learning about nature.

Objectives and Initiatives
The project’s primary objective is to work with the community to create a thriving horticulture and green learning space that combats loneliness and poor mental health. The Guardians of Nature achieve this goal by providing a calm and purposeful space filled with numerous opportunities for success and inclusion. They also conduct quarterly outcome stars to track each volunteer’s progress and address any additional support needs.

Our support was highly appreciated by Jane, a representative from YHG, who shared her gratitude with everyone at Acumen for the valuable contribution we provided during this project. As we have long held the belief that as a company we have a responsibility to promote good citizenship within our business, this project has aligned perfectly with our mission to provide waste management solutions that promote sustainability and contribute to community development.

Our contribution of a skip to the Guardians of Nature project significantly impacted the local community. By creating a welcoming space for individuals to learn, grow, and connect, this initiative has promoted mental well-being, environmental sustainability, and community engagement and demonstrates our commitment to fostering positive change through responsible waste management practices.

We always find joy in contributing to local projects. Cleaning and revitalising spaces for a good cause is what we do best. Our ongoing friendship with the Guardians of Nature is a testament to the shared value of making a positive impact on our surroundings.
