Acumen Supports Your Housing Group in Clearing Community Space in Accommodation for Vulnerable Young People

As part of Acumen’s social value commitment, the team frequently assist with projects working alongside charities and organisations to provide our services for free for worthy causes. One frequent partner of ours is Your Housing Group. Your Housing Group is one of the UK’s largest social housing providers with around 28,000 homes across the Midlands and North of England.

One of their sites, Bridge Foyer was recently selected for investment by a contractor, Equans, specifically to support the residents of this property. Bridge Foyer in Chester is a safe environment offered to young people who require accommodation and support to get back on their feet. The accommodation provides all residents with the chance to access training and employment opportunities within the safety of this facility. It consists of over thirty self-contained flats with private amenities along with various communal areas.

This recent investment was to be used to create an outdoor space that can be used year-round. The courtyard in the centre of the development was to be upgraded with a large pagoda and seating to give the residents shelter and privacy in a safe space.

The area required prep work first, with the main action being the removal of a large planter that was the centrepiece of the area. With support from YHG’s Community Investment Team, staff at Bride Foyer and the Young People who live there, the community came together and moved almost three tons of soil and gravel and left the area ready for further works to take place. Everyone got involved and worked hard to move all the waste via wheelbarrows in just under two hours.

your housing groupKarl Evans, Service Manager at Acumen comments, “The team did an exceptional job on this project. It was demanding work, but the group was positive, energetic, and hard-working all throughout the task. I want to give a massive well done to everyone who made this job possible.”

The day was hard work, but I have enjoyed it. Being outdoors is really good for you and it is like a free work out for your muscles whilst getting stuff done at the same time. Big thanks to Acumen for the 8-yard skip which was filled with gravel and soil in just two hours. The plan is we are going to have a pagoda in our courtyard which will be a great place for us to hang out in the summer.
