Acumen Awarded 52-week Project for Waste Management of Recladding of Central London Skyscraper

The team at Acumen is currently working towards the end of a yearlong project which was awarded at the start of 2022. The project has been to manage and extract the waste produced throughout a mammoth recladding project and renew a 16-storey building housing around 1000 residents, a restaurant and gym in a narrow, Central London street.

The Project

A leading UK contractor is delivering a full principal contractor package for this particular project. The plan is to reclad the building to comply with current health and safety regulations. This involves renewing the glass panels that encircle the building and installing new, incombustible insulation.

Our team of experts were awarded a contract, expected to finish in February 2023 to responsibly manage the waste produced as well as providing expertise in the recycling of waste and general compliance. Alongside this, detailed monthly reports are generated to ensure all activity is correctly logged allowing the contractors to see the movements of all waste from their site, including a high percentage of recycled waste.

How Acumen are Helping

Acumen have provided several crucial services, delivered with expertise, that have allowed this project to run smoothly. We supplied the site with two skips, measuring at 8 and 12 yards to contain general waste and glass between collections. These are moved up to three times per week and sorted appropriately in accordance with all relevant accreditations and compliance documentation that is needed to transport waste in Central London locations.

The waste from this project includes glass panels, metals, plastics, insulation board, wood waste and general waste to be sorted through to maximise diversion from landfill.

The Outcome

We have been able to divert 98% of waste from landfill to the relevant recycling facilities throughout this project so far. All waste removed has been done so efficiently and compliantly despite the challenges that occurred with working on tight Central London streets.

Our client has been awarded a Certificate of Performance from the Considerate Constructors team in which they were seen to have excelled in the following sections: Respect for the Community, Care for the Environment and Value of their Workforce. Their overall performance level was excellent.

The client is thrilled with the work achieved so far and we are leaving the project in February 2023 knowing we are in the best placed position for future projects that come up with this client.
