The acronym WEEE stands for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment. This is a specialist category in the waste and recycling industry subject to a specific set of EU regulations. Within the WEEE Waste sector there are 10 distinct groups of products, all subject to the legislation. These are:

  1. Small household appliances

Small electrical devices used in the home such as toasters, blenders, electric mixers, hoovers, kettles and toastie machines.

  1. Large household appliances

Larger items found in the home, for example dishwashers, washing machines, tumble driers, microwave ovens, fridges and freezers.

  1. Toys and sports gear

Things used for leisure including game boxes like a Wii or Xbox, exercise bikes or rowing machines and model train sets.

  1. Consumer equipment

Products such as televisions, DVD players, sound systems and recording equipment.

  1. Lighting equipment

All types of lights including fluorescent tubes.

  1. Communications and IT equipment

This category encompasses a wide range of items such as PCs, laptops, printers, photocopiers and telephones.

  1. Electrical tools

Electronic items often used in and around the home, for example lawnmowers, electric drills and screwdrivers and saws such as chainsaws.

  1. Monitoring equipment

This group includes items used to protect homeowners like smoke alarms, fire alarms and burglar alarms. It also refers to devices which help to regulate temperatures within the home such as heating thermostats.

  1. Dispensing equipment

Commercial scale dispensers for example vending machines and ATMs.

  1. Medical equipment

Electronic devices and equipment used for medical purposes such as monitors.
