Aligning social value with the needs of our local communicates is hugely important to Acumen
As a progressive and inclusive organisation we are dedicated to making strides in both acknowledging these needs and providing tangible support to local people and organisations.
One such organisation is Bloom Sheffield, a community flower garden for women and girls. This fantastic collective offers a safe space to participate in therapeutic horticulture workshops, construction and crafting courses for anybody who identifies as a woman.
Having a safe space in which women and girls can learn and grow together, to support positive mental health and promote social inclusion for women is a priority within Acumen’s Social Value Agenda.
Supporting our local communities and raising awareness is vital to give people experiencing mental illness the opportunity to be included in a non-judgemental space to help normalise experience and reduce stigma.
Whilst we appreciate that our day to day waste activities are priority, we will continue to build demonstrable relationships with people like Kendall and Jenny from Bloom Sheffield and always strive to do the right thing for local communities across the country.
Some of the team at Acumen will be participating in a number of their spring and summer activities, and anyone interested can contact Bloom Sheffield or Klaire Metcalf at Acumen directly for more details.
Acumen are also working with the Education Business Partnership which supports opportunities for young people within business. We are currently engaging with a number of local Knottingley schools and across the wider Wakefield district to provide careers advice, work experience and mentoring opportunities.
More information on the development of these relationships will be shared in due course.
